Thailand-based Siam Premier International Law Ofice opened its branch in Myanmar last month in a bid to provide legal advisory services to foreign and local companies in Myanmar.

Myanmar Premier International Law Office, a sister company of Siam Premier International, was launched in Yangon on March 21.

“The main objective of Myanmar Premier International Law Office is to provide consultancy services to domestic and international clients in most major legal practices including foreign investment, project finance and commercial transactions in Myanmar,” said Dr Surakiart Sathirathai, chairman of the company, said at the launching ceremony.

Dr Surakiart, also the former deputy prime minister and minister for foreign affairs and finance of Thailand, said: “Myanmar is considered the leading emerging market in this region. A number of Thai investors have invested or considering investing in Myanmar together with foreign investors in Thailand who wish to expand their investments in Myanmar.”

The law firm will provide its services in areas like banking and finance, corporate, foreign direct investment, alternative dispute resolution, employment and labour, real estate and property, intellectual property, taxation, insurance, IT and telecom, energy and immigration, among others, it said in a statement.

Siam Premier’s clientele include regional and international giants such as Thai Airways, Padaeng Industry, Chevron, True Corp, PTT Exploration and Production.

“Our plan is that the majority of staff in Myanmar Premier will be Myanmar working together with Thai staff residing in Myanmar. There is an established plan for knowledge sharing between Myanmar and Thai staff,” Nithi Soomswasdi, a partner at Myanmar Premier, said.

The launching ceremony of the office was held in Chatrium Hotel in Yangon and co-organised by the Economic Development Agency (Myanmar) Ltd. It was also attended by Weerasak Kowsurat, a partner at the law firm and also the former minister for tourism and sports of Thailand.

Siam Premier has a strategic alliance with Nagashima Ohno and Tsunematsu, one of the largest law firms in Japan, and Lao Premier, a sister company in Laos. Siam Premier was listed as a leading law firm in Thailand in Asia Pacific Legal 500 and Chambers Global surveys.
